Identifying 70+ Improvement Opportunities Through Value Stream Mapping

How Adonis Partners helped an industrial manufacturer use value stream mapping to eliminate waste, improve flow, and reduce lead times for measurable operational gains.

Real-World Results From Value Stream Mapping

This engagement used value stream mapping to identify and eliminate non-value activities that were driving waste and lead time. The team reduced cycle times, improved flow, and unlocked measurable gains in throughput and productivity across operations.

The challenge

A technology company providing financial reporting solutions for small business and franchise owners sought to increase efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness within its monthly reporting process. While the reporting function was critical to customer value, the underlying workflows had grown complex and inconsistent, creating delays and limiting visibility.

Adonis Partners was engaged to lead a focused, high-intensity effort to identify the root causes of these issues and uncover opportunities to improve performance across the reporting process. The objective was to develop a clear set of near-term and long-term actions that would enable faster, more reliable reporting.

The value stream mapping approach

Adonis Partners began by aligning the team on Lean principles, including waste elimination, flow of work, and root cause analysis. Using structured value stream mapping techniques, the team documented the end-to-end reporting process, from inputs through final outputs.

Tools such as SIPOC and value stream mapping were used to visualize workflows, identify handoffs, highlight bottlenecks, and expose non-value-added activities. This shared view of the process enabled cross-functional teams to pinpoint where work was breaking down and where improvements would have the greatest impact.

The impact

The value stream mapping effort identified more than 70 opportunities for improvement across the reporting process. From these insights, 20 “quick win” actions were launched, along with three larger “game changer” initiatives designed to drive step-change improvements.

Together, these actions laid the foundation for a more standardized, data-driven reporting process, improving speed, accuracy, and scalability while creating greater transparency and alignment across the organization.
