Darren has 30 years of experience in operations and has been practicing or teaching lean principles for almost 25 years. He started his career at Steelcase Canada where he spent 15 years in various roles including Quality System Specialist, Production supervisor and eventually Agile Product Team Leader for the largest product line in Canada. During his time at Steelcase he was actively involved in their transformation from a pure batch manufacturer to a world class Lean Leader.
After Steelcase, Darren spent 5 years as Plant Manager at Inscape Office Furniture. While at inscape he helped reduce lead times from four weeks down to 2 weeks in their filing division and was part of the negotiating team for two successful union contract agreements.
After 20 years in Office Furniture Darren moved on to work in various senior leadership positions in the Pharmaceutical industry for Contract Pharmaceuticals Limited. He started as the Focus Factory Leader for their liquid division and led a lead time reduction initiative that reduced lead time for their top product from 115 days down to 60 days. He later moved on to become the focus factory leader for the cream division and eventually a combined role was created to run both divisions where Darren became the Director of Production Operations.
After 5 years of Operational Leadership at Contract Pharmaceuticals Darren moved on to the role of Director of Continuous Improvement reporting directly to the CEO. In this role Darren was able to focus full time on Lean training and continuous improvement projects across the organization.
Darren holds a Black Belt Masters Certificate in Lean Six Sigma from the Executive Education Centre at the Schulich School of Business.
